An man died in an overnight shooting in northeastern Colorado Springs, police said early Saturday.

Officers were called to reports of gunfire at 5461 Mosquito pass Drive just before 11:19 p.m. Police say they found a man dead at a home in the neighborhood near Powers Boulevard and carefree Circle.

Officers won't say who died or who pulled the trigger, but hinted that they have a fair idea of what happened.

"At this time, a possible suspect or vehicle description is not available but detectives do not believe there is a threat to the community," police said in a news release.

Police remained in the neighborhood for much of Saturday morning and were working inside the tan split-level where the death occurred.

Officers and neighbors weren't talking.

"Investigators will have to wait for an autopsy to be conducted to positively identify the victim," police said in a news release. "The autopsy will also determine the cause and manner of death."

Police had finished work at the scene by 10 a.m.

The death could add to a deadly toll of homicides in Colorado Springs this year. Through Saturday, the city had seen 24 homicides, and the latest death would make 25 if it is ruled an intentional killing.

That puts the city on pace to shatter the record of 32 homicides in a year set in 2011.
