A man suspected of threatening mountain bikers while wielding a hatchet was arrested Monday afternoon.
Daniel Nations, 31, was arrested by Woodland Park police on suspicion of an unrelated weapons offense, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said. About 3 p.m., officers stopped his car, a red Chevrolet Prizm with expired Indiana license plates.
The car matches descriptions provided in several tips about menacing in the Monument and Mount Herman areas, the Sheriff's Office said.
Jacqueline Kirby, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, declined to say whether Nations also faces charges in the reports of menacing, but a Sheriff's Office release referred to him as a "suspect" in the Mount Herman Road threats. He was booked into Teller County jail.
The incidents of menacing happened in the same area where a cyclist recently was killed.
Timothy Watkins, 60, of Palmer Lake, was found dead Sept. 17 in the Mount Herman area, days after he left for a mountain bike ride and never returned. His death is being investigated as a homicide.
