Terrell Smith, 29, was booked into the El Paso County jail Sunday after Colorado Springs police said he tried to kill his girlfriend. He is being held without bond on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, assault, prohibited use of a weapon and reckless endangerment, court records show.
Around 7:23 a.m. police responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Delaware Drive and East St. Vrain Street and officers said they saw a man drop a 9mm semi-automatic handgun on the ground as they approached.
Investigators said Smith had allegedly fired at his girlfriend after threatening to kill her, but she was not injured in the altercation.
A single shell casing was recovered from the scene, as well as bullet fragments, police said.
