A 22-year-old man was arrested early Friday after he apparently shot at another male who he said was breaking into his car.

Colorado Springs police went to the 4800 block of Wineskin Drive just after 3:30 a.m. after receiving a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found Matthew Rodenberger who told them that he was on his porch and saw someone walking down the road and trying to open car doors.

Suddenly, the unknown male approached Rodenberger's car. Rodenberger said he yelled at the apparent burglar and he began to run. Rodenberger quickly went inside and got his handgun. He opened fire at the male "from a long distance away" as he was running down Wineskin Drive, police said.

Officers unsuccessfully searched for the man and a dark sport utility vehicle that was seen in the area.

Rodenberger was arrested on suspicion of illegally discharging a firearm and criminal mischief. Both are felonies. He was taken to the El Paso County jail.
