A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder after a 19-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound Wednesday morning in southeast Colorado Springs.

Matthew John DeJong was arrested hours after the New Year's Day shooting at a building at the Antero Apartments complex, 1430 Michelle Court.

Colorado Springs Police have not yet identified the victim and say the cause and manner of death has not been determined, pending an autopsy.

Police say they found the body at around 7 a.m. after responding to a shots fired call.

Neighbor Tia Sequeira said she heard a gun shot around 7 a.m., followed by the sounds of two women and a man screaming.

Loud music had been coming from the apartment for a while, which was unusual, she said.
