Police arrested a man Friday night on suspicion of drunk driving after the pickup truck he was driving suddenly swerved and smashed head-on into another truck.
The crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. near the intersection of South Academy and East Fountain boulevards in southern Colorado Springs.
According to police, Pancho Toribio was driving southbound on Academy when Toribio altered his course and clobbered a Ford pickup truck that was waiting to turn left onto Fountain Boulevard.
Colorado Springs Fire Department crews had to rip open the GMC truck that Toribio was driving to get him out and take him to the hospital.
Toribio was arrested a short time later on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Two people who were in the Ford at the time of the crash were not injuured.
The intersection was closed until about 11:30 p.m., police said.
