Man arrested after altercation involving gun

Road rage escalated when a man allegedly threatened a group of people with a handgun, striking a person in the head and causing the firearm to go off Wednesday, police said.

Jeffrey Ray Traylor, 27, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault and felony menacing, according to police.

The fight allegedly broke out on the 1200 block of Firefly Circle, off East Fountain Boulevard, shortly before 8 a.m. According to police, Traylor and four other people, who all live on the same block, drove into a parking lot in two separate vehicles and got into an argument. The altercation moved into an apartment foyer and Traylor allegedly brandished a handgun, threatened the four occupants and struck one of them in the head with it, causing it to discharge, police said.

The victim was treated and released for a laceration to the head and no one was injured in the shooting, police said.

Police took Traylor into custody shortly after on the 2500 block of Verde Drive and recovered a firearm.
