A man was arrested Friday after allegedly punching a Colorado Springs police officer and accusing him of being the devil.

Charles James Cline, 47, was booked into the El Paso County jail on suspicion of second-degree assault of a peace officer and held on a $10,000 bond, court records show.

At about 9:18 p.m. police were alerted about a man standing in the middle of the intersection of East San Miguel Street and North Nevada Avenue, screaming about demons and robots, police said.

When officers tried to approach the man, identified as Cline, he became very aggressive and accused police of being "demons, half-breeds and not human," according to police reports.

A police supervisor was called for back-up and Cline allegedly punched him in the face, accusing him of being the devil, police said. The supervisor was not seriously injured.

Cline was taken to custody and transported to Memorial Hospital for medical clearance, then booked into the El Paso County jail.
