Allegedly offering a police officer a $100 bribe to avoid arrest was not a good idea for a Colorado Springs man on Monday.

Anthony Barreras, 20, was arrested on suspicion of bribery, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, attempting to influence a public official and theft, court records show. He was booked into the El Paso County jail and held without bond.

According to police, an officer was taking Barreras into custody at 9:40 a.m. on suspicion of shoplifting at the Walmart store on 3201 E. Platte Ave.

The officer found a small bag on Barreras with suspected crystal methamphetamine, police said.

Barreras then allegedly offered $100 to let him go free, police said.

Barreras allegedly resisted being handcuffed and a semi-automatic pistol dropped from the waistband of his pants, police said.

The officer was not injured; Barreras was treated for facial injuries, police said.
