A 44-year-old man was arrested Friday after he allegedly was seen pulling on the door handles of parked vehicles in an attempt to steal items from inside.

About 11 a.m., a caller told police that a man, identified as Richard Sanchez, was trying to get into vehicles near North Academy and Palmer Park boulevards. The caller remained on the phone with police, observing the burglar while he continued trying to get into vehicles near the Citadel Mall.

A vehicle owner confronted Sanchez after reportedly seeing him go into his vehicle and steal a cellphone, but Sanchez walked away.

Sanchez was arrested on North Chelton Road on suspicion of unspecified "criminal violations," police said. He remains in El Paso County jail on $2,000 bond, inmate records show.
