Authorities in Fremont County pulled a live grenade from a vehicle they stopped in downtown Florence Friday evening, the Florence Police Department said.

Police were searching a vehicle they suspected to be involved in drug dealing when they found an "older military hand grenade," which the Pueblo County bomb squad transported and defused.

Roads were closed, and the surrounding area evacuated, until 10 p.m. Friday night.

Police say a young man had stumbled upon the grenade while walking north of Canon City.  Authorities searched the area, but did not find any other grenades or explosives.
