Lightning strikes ignited two small fires Wednesday afternoon in Teller County, the Sheriff's Office reported.
The fires each burned about a quarter-acre. They were on Cathedral Ridge and Forest Service Road 339 north of Woodland Park off of Highway 67.
The fire quickly were contained by "Forest Service and local fire service resources, which included one helicopter," the Sheriff's Office said. "No structures were threatened and no residences were evacuated."
Near-critical fire weather conditions are expected to develop in southern Colorado on Thursday, with low humidity, warm temperatures and 10 to 15 mph winds forecast by the National Weather Service in Pueblo.
Most of El Paso County also is in severe drought, and Teller County is experiencing moderate drought.
Chances of thunderstorms are forecast for Colorado Springs through the end of the week and into the weekend, and highs are expected to be in the mid-80s to low 90s.
