Cherie Cree, whose journey with terminal cancer The Gazette chronicled in an article last month and another in 2011, died Sunday evening at her home in Manitou Springs, on the same block where she was born.

She was 62.

Cherie worked as a registered labor and delivery nurse at Memorial Hospital Central for 35 years, assisting some 18,000 women with the birthing process.

She also was part of an air medic crew that flew around southern Colorado to help save the lives of high-risk pregnant women and their newborns.

She and her husband, Joseph, also operated her family's longtime rental property business in Manitou.

Cherie enjoyed camping, bicycling, gardening and spending time with her friends.

She is survived by Joseph, her husband of 31 years.
