Local NBC affiliate KOAA-TV announced today that Shellene Cockrell, a Colorado Springs native and the 1994 Miss Colorado, will soon be joining Adam Atchison on the station’s morning anchor desk. A former reporter and anchor for KWGN in Denver, the Mitchell High School graduate is also the host and analyst of the Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge series on NBC.

“Shellene’s diverse background includes news anchoring and reporting, college basketball play-by-play (both men’s and women’s), and leadership and media coaching,” said KOAA news director Kelly Duffy. “She’s a multifaceted journalist with three Emmys under her belt.”

Cockrell will join Atchison, Stephen Bowers, and Joanna Wise on air just after Labor Day. Viewers can see her from 4:30 a.m. – 7 a.m. on the “News5 Today” weekday morning broadcasts.
