DENVER — The Broncos began Day 2 of the NFL draft by giving the new quarterback some help.
Courtland Sutton, a 6-foot-3, 218-pound wide receiver from SMU, was the Broncos' first pick of the second round, at No. 40. Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders (also from SMU) and Sutton should be nice for Case Keenum. Here are some highlights of Sutton at Southern Methodist.
The Broncos then added Oregon running back Royce Freeman with the No. 71 pick. "Rolls" is the Pac-12's career rushing leader with 5,621 yards and career scoring leader with 64 touchdowns. And a whole lot of carries (947).
The Broncos took N.C. State pass-rusher Bradley Chubb with the No. 5 pick Thursday. Denver's Day 2 was expected to be offense-oriented as the Broncos try to juice up their sleepy offense.
John Elway went back to the defensive side for their final pick of the day, 99th overall: Boston College cornerback Isaac Yiadom, who was teammates with Broncos safety Justin Simmons in college. Yiadom is 6-1, 190.
