MONTROSE — A three-woman jury in Montrose has acquitted a military veteran accused of having a service dog that was a vicious animal.

The Montrose Daily Press reports ( ) Jeremiah Aguilar's acquittal Friday allowed for Dutch the dog to be released back to him.

A municipal court had found that Dutch was a vicious dog that bit its former owner last year and should be put down. Aguilar had argued his dog was provoked and appealed to county court.

The order for Dutch to be destroyed was stayed as Aguilar pursued his case.

City Attorney Steve Alcorn says Dutch was returned to Aguilar after the jury verdict Friday, and Aguilar is leaving the state with Dutch.
