An Iraqi immigrant convicted in a rape case that left a woman nearly dead and bleeding internally was sentenced to 28 years to life in prison.

Jasim Mohammed Hasin Ramadon, also known as Jay Hendrix, received the sentence Friday from 4th Judicial District Court Judge Barbara Hughes.

Ramadon was among five Iraqi immigrants arrested in connection with the 2012 rape - all but one of whom had been brought to the United States after helping U.S. military personnel in Iraq, had been accused of lying to police about the rape.

The 53-year-old victim was attacked at the Wildridge Apartments in the 2500 block of Gold Rush drive on July 21, 2012.
