An illegal campfire sparked a grassfire at the Valley Hi Golf Course in Colorado Springs Wednesday, according to city communications officials.

The fire was first reported about 11:20 a.m. near South Chelton Road and was quickly extinguished by responding fire crews, spokeswoman Julie Smith said.

According to scanner traffic, Black Hills Energy crews were on scene to shut off any gas lines for precautionary measures.
