HOUSTON (AP) — Five utility workers have suffered significant electrical burns in an accident while doing maintenance on a downtown Houston building.
The Houston Fire Department says the CenterPoint Energy workers were hurt Thursday morning in an electrical vault accident at the Southwestern Bell building. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
CenterPoint spokeswoman Alicia Dixon had no further details on names of the victims or extent of their injuries.
Dixon says the electrical contact happened as the crew was doing routine maintenance in the basement. The vault stores equipment to serve underground power lines that supply electricity to buildings.
Dixon says the building and two other structures were impacted — losing electricity because of the accident or power was later halted to make repairs.
The basement suffered minimal fire damage.
