A fire started inside a home in the early hours of Wednesday morning and displaced a father and his two young children, but no one sustained injuries, the Colorado Springs Fire Department said.

CSFD responded to a 911 call of a house fire around 2 a.m. at 3285 El Canto Dr., west of Flintridge Drive and West Montebello Drive.

A smoke alarm awakened the family and they were able to evacuate the house on their own.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 3 a.m. The home was severely damaged and the family found alternate shelter with assistance from the Red Cross.

Sunny Smaldino, CSFD spokeswoman, said investigators were at the scene Wednesday morning and a cause for the fire had not been released.
