A man in his mid-20s was fatally shot in the head Saturday morning in Teller County by the occupant of a home who was "surprised" by the man's presence, officials said.

The victim appeared to know the occupant of the home, a sheriff spokesman said, but officers are still investigating their relationship.

The shooter called police around 4 a.m., prompting officers to respond to the home in the Sherwood Forest subdivision said Lt. Marc Porcelli, a spokesman for the sheriff's office. Porcelli would not release the exact address of the shooting. He also would not release the names of the victim and the suspect.

Officers detained the shooter for questioning but no charges have been filed, Porcelli said. County coroner Al Born said the shooting was a homicide. He said an autopsy would take place Monday morning.
