Homemade explosive found in Colorado Springs residence

By Andrea Sinclair Published: May 19, 2013

A Colorado Springs police bomb squad disarmed an explosive device found Sunday morning at a house in the 600 block of North 24th Street Sunday.

An area around the house was blocked off for three hours as explosive experts worked, said police Sgt. Pamela Castro.

The area was reopened at 12:30 p.m. after the device was rendered harmless, police said.

A homeowner found and reported the device, which police say was cylindrical, 10-12 inches long and made from commercial-grade fireworks.

Castro said the investigation is ongoing and no arrests had been made in connection to the incident.

People with information on the incident are asked to contact the department at 444-7000.
