A trade association representing most of Colorado's winter resorts is trumpeting a strong opening to the season. Skier and snowboarder visits during the first 21/2 months were "1 percent off" the pace of last season's record-breaking turnout at 21 resorts represented by Colorado Ski County USA, according to a news release.
Enthusiasts turned out in force over the holiday period, making up for a lackluster opening that had many resorts opening late.
High-profile international ski and snowboard events are expected to maintain the momentum, said Colorado Ski County USA spokeswoman Jenn Rudolph. The numbers are from a period spanning Oct. 17 to Dec. 31.
Colorado's ski resorts welcomed a record-setting 12.6 million visits during the 2013/2014 season.
