A hiker was found safe after going missing for almost two days, prompting a search by Fremont County authorities.

Matthew Albonizio, 39, was dropped off by a friend at the Sand Gulch area on the east side of County Road 12 in Cotopaxi, about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the Fremont County Sheriff's Office.

Albonizio was going rock hunting and was expected to return to the drop off location a few hours later, but his friend told deputies he did not show up. Albonizio was reported missing at 4 p.m. Sunday.

In a statement released by the Fremont County Sheriff's Office Monday, Albonizio was reportedly safe in Salida. No further details were provided on where Albonizio had been, or how he was found.
