HONOLULU (AP) — Authorities say a cell phone signal led rescuers to a hiker missing for four days in a mountain ravine on Oahu.
Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Terry Seelig says the man, identified as 26-year-old Jan Vankat, was found near the Nuuanu Pali Lookout Saturday.
He was taken to a hospital in serious, but stable condition.
Vankat, a visitor from Europe, was last seen Wednesday but he wasn't reported missing until Friday. He was described as an experienced hiker.
Police pinpointed the location of Vankat's cell phone near the lookout, and rescuers who hiked to the location found it in a backpack along a trail. Vankat was then located about 100 yards below the backpack.
