A Halloween-themed store in Colorado Springs was robbed Wednesday as employees were preparing to open, according to reports.

An employee at Spirit Halloween, 545 N. Academy Blvd., was held up at gunpoint by a man on the city's east side before the man left the scene with cash, Gazette news partner KKTV reported. The man was waiting in the parking lot when employees arrived to open the store, KKTV said.

The robbery happened just before 8:30 a.m., police confirmed.

An employee told KKTV that the man also stole his keys. He then ran across the street toward The Citadel mall, KKTV reported.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
