A Gunnison man was killed in a head-on collision near Fairplay Sunday that the Colorado State Patrol said may have been weather related.

John Wacker, 55, was pronounced dead at St. Anthony's Hospital after the 10:30 a.m. crash on Colorado 285 about six miles north of Fairplay, the patrol said in a release.

Wacker was driving north when his Audi A4 was struck by a southbound vehicle driven by Christopher Fesmire, 35, of Hartsel, troopers said. Fesmire was not injured; troopers said both men were wearing seatbelts.

Fesmire's Toyota 4Runner crossed the center line and the two vehicles collided head-on, the release said.

The crash closed Highway 285 for several hours.

The release said driving too fast for conditions may be a factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
