A grass fire off of Mesa Ridge Parkway and South powers Boulevard burned about 3 acres before it was contained Wednesday afternoon, said Jacqueline Kirby, spokeswoman for the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

The Security Fire Department responded to the fire in the 8100 block of Barn Swallow Grove, she said.

Smoke was reported at the Glen in Widefield just after 2 p.m., according to Gazette news partner KKTV. The fire started burning close to several houses, KKTV reported.
