Capsules for girls' basketball area teams in the Class 4A quarterfinals.
(All games Saturday at the Denver Coliseum.)
Sand Creek (22-3) vs. Valor Christian (22-3), 10:30 a.m.
Quick hits: Since absorbing a 67-34 loss at Sand Creek on Jan. 3, Valor has won 15 games in a row, all by at least 14 points, as the Eagles try to settle the score. Meanwhile, Sand Creek has had its last two seasons end at the hands of D'Evelyn in the quarterfinals. Both teams have set school records for wins this season but neither has ever reached the semifinals.
Mesa Ridge (25-0) vs. D'Evelyn (21-4), 1:30 p.m.
Quick hits: For the second season in a row, Mesa Ridge brings an undefeated record to the Denver Coliseum. Last March, a 25-0 Grizzlies team without injured leader Kylee Shook fell to eventual state champ Pueblo South in the quarterfinals. Fully healthy, the Grizzlies meet a battle-tested Jaguars team that has played in the past two 4A title games, falling each time.
Broomfield (25-0) vs. Palmer Ridge (22-3), 8:30 p.m.
Quick hits: Palmer Ridge makes its 4A quarterfinals debut against a been-there, done-that Broomfield team that won five consecutive state crowns (2007-11) before falling in the quarterfinals in 2012 to eventual champ Air Academy and dropping a three-point loss to eventual champ Pueblo South in the 2013 semifinals. The Bears have lost only to Sand Creek (twice) and Elizabeth, also playing in Saturday's quarterfinal-round games.
