A 16-year-old Air Academy student died after exiting a moving car on northbound Interstate 25, near the North Academy exit ramp, around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, the Colorado State Patrol said.

Nanette Anderson, a spokesperson with District 20 confirmed that Brooke Olson died Thursday after the incident. Olson was a sophomore at Air Academy. Anderson said the school district is reaching out to students at the high school to help deal with the unfortunate loss.

"Today is the first that some students have heard of the incident," she said Friday morning. "There are extra counselors on hand at the school today."

No details about a memorial service were available Friday morning.

State Trooper Josh Lewis said that Olson was taken to Memorial Hospital Center with head trauma and died a short time after the incident. Olson was a passenger in the car when she left the vehicle, Lewis said. The vehicle was driven by a 43-year-old female.

According to Lewis, the State Patrol did not believe that foul play was involved in Olson's death.
