An event on Sunday offers an opportunity that's sort of like tuning up your car and giving it a wash - only this one's for pooches.

The third annual Because We CARE Pet Fair will be 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday at International Coach, 3204 E. Platte Ave.

The event will feature low-cost vaccinations, wellness exams, microchipping, nail trims and spay/neuter vouchers. The exam and vaccinations are $25, or $5 with proof of financial need, such as Social Security notification, proof of disability income or food stamps.

The free public fair also includes a celebrity dog wash fundraisers. The dog washers will be radio personalities Tammy Oakland of K-Lite 106.3 FM, and Val Hart of KCCY 96.9, and local actor Jeff Bosley.

Among the event sponsors are the Colorado Springs Area Veterinary Society and Harley's Hope Foundation. The foundation's mission is to help with medical care, behavior training and short-term foster care. Since 2010 the foundation has provided service to 840 pets and medical assistance animals.
