Trump used profane language as he questioned Thursday, Jan. 11, why the U.S. should permit immigrants from certain countries as he rejected a plan by a bipartisan group of senators that would have changed rules affecting entrants from Africa and Haiti, according to three people briefed on the conversation. WASHINGTON (AP) — In bluntly vulgar language, President Donald Trump questioned Thursday why the U.S. would accept more immigrants from Haiti and "shithole countries" in Africa rather than places like Norway, as he rejected a bipartisan immigration deal, according to people briefed on the extraordinary Oval Office conversation.

Here is how some Gazette readers reacted.

The fact that Trump would make this comment in front of so many people (including a Dem), just shows me that he is not as smart as he thinks he is.

And the base just cheered - not realizing the contradictions many of them should have if they are truly Christian. But instead it’ll be dismissed and defended. Truly shameful behavior.

Comment by Steve

Don't question him -- he'll only bring up Hillary.

Knee-jerk. And after the performance Sarah Huckabee Sanders put on in defense of this . . . person, I cannot fathom how anyone with a conscience can work for the White House.

Why choose Norway as opposed to the ----hole countries? Dog-whistle, anyone?

Response by Tim (Fotinos)

Many believe Mr Trump agrees to the last idea he hears. The last leader he met Is the Prime Minister of Norway. That he used Norway as an example may not be racism so much as its the first non-African country he could remember. We'll probably never know.

Dems have been trying to turn this country into a 'sh*thole' for years. They failed with Hillary and now they're in the purest form of 'crybaby' mode. I just love it.
