Gazette Preps 2018 Boys' Swimming & Diving All-Stars

FIRST TEAM

200 Freestyle: Andrew Bell, sr., Pine Creek – Bell’s top time of the year was 1:44.92 in the 200-yard freestyle. Just 2 seconds off from his top time, team captain Bell placed sixth in the 4A state championships with a time of 1:46.52.

200 Individual Medley: Nick Sherman, sr., Pine Creek – Sherman was ranked second in the 200 IM before winning it all with a gold-medal time of 1:50.81. Sherman’s top time of the year was 1:49.21. He also won state gold in the 100 back (50.01).

50 Freestyle: Griffin Ayotte, jr., Air Academy –  Ayotte placed second at the state championships with a season-best time of 20.91, beating his season best by nearly two seconds. Entering the state championship weekend Ayotte was ranked 10th with a time of 22.60.

Diving: Aric Althouse, sr., Lewis-Palmer – Heading into the 5A state championships Althouse had the top score of any diver in the state with a 557.65. He ultimately placed fourth in his final state championship with a score of 533.75.

100 Butterfly: Tommy Rauchut, so., Discovery Canyon – Rauchut’s season-best finish in the 100 fly came at the right time for the sophomore, as he swam to a silver medal in the 4A state championships. His time of 50.77 was nearly three seconds faster than his previous season PR.

100 Freestyle: Kyle Leach, sr., Cheyenne Mountain – Leach continued the Cheyenne Mountain tradition of excellence in the pool. He set a state record in the 100 free with a time of 44.33, and claimed gold in the 50 free (20.32). He also helped the Indians to a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay, and anchored the second-place 400 free relay.

500 Freestyle: Braden Whitmarsh, jr., Discovery Canyon – Whitmarsh claimed a bronze medal in the 500 freestyle with a 4A state championship time of 4:42.41. Heading into the championship weekend Whitmarsh was ranked third with a season-best time of 4:49.44. He also placed third in the 200 free (1:43.31).

100 Backstroke: Christian Moden, sr., Cheyenne Mountain – Swimming a season-best time, Moden claimed third in the 100 backstroke at the 4A state championships with a time of 52.03. Moden also helped his 200 medley relay to state gold, and his 400 free relay team to a second-place finish.

100 Breaststroke: Nick Orie, sr., Lewis-Palmer – Heading into the state championships with a ninth-place rank in 5A, Orie swam to a season best time of 57.25 - an All-American consideration time. He also placed seventh in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.67.

SECOND TEAM

200 Freestyle: Joey Graff, sr., Lewis-Palmer – 1:46.43

200 Individual Medley: Gabe Grauvogel, jr., Cheyenne Mountain – 1:53.62

50 Freestyle: Reece MacRenato, jr., Palmer – 22.0

Diving: Brendan Byrnes, sr., Discovery Canyon – 508.75

100 Butterfly: Robert Clayton, sr., Discovery Canyon – 51.94

100 Freestyle: Breck Donahue, sr., Lewis-Palmer – 46.95

500 Freestyle: Scott Reeder, so., Rampart – 4:51.71

100 Backstroke: Andrew McGill, fr., Discovery Canyon – 53.20

100 Breaststroke: Joshua-Ryan Lujan, jr., Pine Creek – 57.61
