Eastbound Garden of the Gods Road is closed Wednesday to allow Colorado Springs Utilities crews to finish repaving the site of a gas line main break that shut down the busy traffic way for several hours Tuesday.
"After the morning commute happens, we'll close a few lanes so our contractor can come in and do the final repaving," said utilities spokeswoman Patrice Lehermeier. "The weather is really good today, so that will help out."
The lane closures will last a few hours, Lehermeier said, and the city will have to approve the completed repairs.
A natural gas lone was hit during construction at the 500 block of Garden of the Gods Road around 3 p.m. Tuesday, utilities officials said.
It shut down both directions of the road from Interstate 25 to Centennial Boulevard until about 6 p.m., causing significant delays for Colorado Springs motorists during the evening commute.
About 9:30 p.m., a tweet from utilities indicated the repairs would last until about midnight and all lanes were expected to be open by Wednesday morning.
