Colorado Springs students get blood and guts example on ramifications of bad decisions

Memorial medical student Aishah Najam shows fifth graders how to cut into skin during a trauma program led by Dr. Tiffany Willard, a trauma surgeon at Memorial Hospital Central, at Gold Camp Elementary School on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. Dr. Willard spends the first part of the class talking about the body systems, what constitutes a trauma, choices that contribute to a trauma, and drug and alcohol use. A pager later goes off and Memorial medical students bring in a mannequin and present a trauma situation. The kids are called up individually to play doctor on the mannequin. Afterward they are assigned to tables where medical students assist them in performing cutting and sutures. Photo by Stacie Scott, The Gazette
