Painful memories/ Firefighters, soldiers, other survivors recall horror of swirling smoke, darkness in county's disastrous blaze of 1950

Only the fireplace, chimney and ruble remained of the Robert Bensberg home on his Cheyenne mountain ranch. Edgar Bensberg and John Kelley, employed at the ranch, were in the six-room, one-story home at the time of the fire, about 3 p.m. Tuesday. Edgar Bensberg was taking a bath and Kelley preparing lunch, both believing the timber fire under control. Bensberg said today they escaped with some of the personal belongings, including clothes."
