Bates Final Day

Friday was the last day for Bates Elementary School. Bates is one of the schools to be closing their doors this year.

First grade teacher Shelby Givens becomes emotional when she was recognized at the final assembly for Bates Elementary School on Friday, May 17, 2013. Bates Elementary School is one of the District 11 schools to close its doors this year and Givens has been a teacher there for 31 years. An assembly was held on Friday to say goodbye to the school that was built in 1957. In attendance were not only current students and faculty, but past principals, teachers and students who came back to honor the school. (Jerilee Bennett, The Gazette)
