More than 101 Dalmations, actually about 250 Dalmations are in town this week for the 2018 National Specialty of the Dalmation Club of America. Owners from across the country and Canada will be showing their Dalmations in competition throughout the week at the Hotel Eleganté. A group of the spotted canines wait for their competitions on the sidelines in a hotel ballroom on Monday, May 7, 2018. The Dalmation Club of America has been around since 1905. The last day will be Saturday and will feature the Best of Breed competition. Dalmation puppies are born white without spotted fur and start to develop their spots in about 3-4 weeks. Dalmations are known for being firehouse dogs. Dalmations and horses are compatible, so the dogs were used to clear paths in front of the old horse-drawn engines and run alongside at the same pace. The public is welcome to attend the event. ONLINE PHOTO GALLERY (Photo by Jerilee Bennett, The Gazette)
