Dalmatians and Their Owners Visit Colorado Springs

About 250 will visit Colorado Springs during the Dalmatian Club of America's National Specialty.

Dalmatians
More than 101 Dalmatians, actually about 250 Dalmatians are in town this week for the 2018 National Specialty of the Dalmatian Club of America. Owners from across the country and Canada will be showing their Dalmatians in competition throughout the week at the Hotel ElegantŽ. A group of the spotted canines wait for their competitions on the sidelines in a hotel ballroom on Monday, May 7, 2018. The Dalmatian Club of America has been around since 1905. The last day will be Saturday and will feature the Best of Breed competition. Dalmatian puppies are born white without spotted fur and start to develop their spots in about 3-4 weeks. Dalmatians are known for being firehouse dogs. Dalmatians and horses are compatible, so the dogs were used to clear paths in front of the old horse-drawn engines and run alongside at the same pace. The public is welcome to attend the event. (Photo by Jerilee Bennett, The Gazette)
