Gazette Preps football class of 2020: The future is bright

While the Pikes Peak region boasts a number of talented seniors leading the way, the class of 2020 has started to make waves around the area.

David Moore III, Pine Creek | RB | 5'8" | 176 lbs |

Pine Creek’s David Moore III started the season as one of the state’s top running backs after a stellar rookie year and has not missed a beat. Through five games he has 724 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. He’s the top sophomore back in the state with 200 more yards than the No. 2-ranked sophomore back - Cheyenne Mountain’s James LaCerte.

James LaCerte, Cheyenne Mountain | RB | 6'1" | 190 lbs |

LaCerte started the season with a 95-yard breakout performance against Air Academy, but put up 45 yards or less in the following two games. His slump didn’t last long, however, and he hit his stride in Week 4, with 182 yards and two scores against Lincoln, and had 144 yards on 11 carries and four touchdowns against Mitchell in Week 5.

Logan Siffert, Doherty | QB | 5'10 | 165 lbs |

Despite being a first-year varsity player, Doherty’s Logan Siffert is ranked among the top 10 sophomore quarterbacks in the state with 483 passing yards and five touchdowns through five games. He was thrown into the thick of it in his first varsity start and completed 7 of 14 for 145 yards and four touchdowns in the Spartan’s 83-55 win over Rangeview.

Raef Ruel, Palmer Ridge | RB | 5'10" | 170 lbs |

The state’s fourth-ranked running back is Palmer Ridge’s Raef Ruel, who adds a whole new dimension to the Bear’s already powerful offense. Ruel had a 48-yard touchdown in the first five minutes against Canon City, setting the tone for Friday’s 43-0 victory. At 5-foot-10 Ruel averages nearly 10 yards per carry and just over 80 yards per game.

Anthony Roberson II, Palmer Ridge | CB | 5'9" | 170 lbs |

Ruel’s teammate Anthony (Deuce) Roberson II is the top-ranked receiver in the state with 675 yards and six touchdowns, including a 69-yard reception into the end zone Friday against Canon City for his longest catch of the season. Roberson is also used in moderation due to the Bears’ deep core of receivers, but through five games Roberson averages nearly 22 yards per reception.

Peyton Brones, Colorado Springs Christian School

On the defensive end, Colorado Springs Christian School’s Peyton Brones (45) is second in his class with 46 total tackles, including 10 for a loss. He’s also ranked eighth among sophomores in solo tackles with 19 and 11th in sacks with two. Brones also has 179 rushing yards, 86 of which he earned in the Lions’ 27-9 rivalry win over St. Mary’s.
