Annual Emma Crawford Coffin Races in Manitou Springs on Saturday, October 25, 2014.

Thousands flocked to Manitou Springs on Saturday, October 25, 2014, for the annual Emma Crawford Coffin Races. The races started in 1995, but the story of Emma Crawford goes back to 1891 when she was buried at the top of Red Mountain above Manitou Springs. Legend has it that in 1912 her coffin washed down the side of the mountain and into Manitou Springs. Each year of team of four runners and an Emma compete in races. This year had a record of 50 teams in the race. Before the race is a parade of coffins, hearses, and ghouls. Josh Glissan entertains the parade crowd with his fire breathing skills. Thousands flocked to Manitou Springs on Saturday, October 25, 2014, for the annual Emma Crawford Coffin Races. The races started in 1995, but the story of Emma Crawford goes back to 1891 when she was buried at the top of Red Mountain above Manitou Springs. Legend has it that in 1912 her coffin washed down the side of the mountain and into Manitou Springs. Each year of team of four runners and an Emma compete in races.
