DURANGO — Frontier Airlines officials say decreased bookings between Denver and Durango have forced the company to stop year-round service between the two cities.
Catherine Rieb, Frontier's marketing director, tells The Durango Herald (http://bit.ly/15UuPrh ) the airline is switching to seasonal service and is not expected to return to Durango until late spring of 2014. Customers who have booked beyond Oct. 28 will be offered a refund or be rebooked on Great Lakes Airlines to Cortez or Farmington, N.M.
Through June, Frontier's boardings at Durango-La Plata County Airport were down 35 percent when compared with its bookings in 2010. Frontier served 14,023 passengers as of June 30 compared with 21,533 passengers for the same time period in 2010.
United Airlines will offer the only direct flight from Durango to Denver after October until Frontier resumes its service.
