This is the second year for an event designed to help people leaving the military get dapper as they prepare for civilian life and get new jobs.
Rampart Range Blue Star Mothers, a local branch of the organization of women whose children honorably serve or served, is collecting gently used men's or women's professional business attire, clean and good condition, current styles, on hangers and preferably in a dry cleaner bag with sizes marked. They are accepting suits, sports coats and women's suits and dresses.
Last year, more than 500 suits, shirts and accessories were donated and given out at Fort Carson's Transition Assistance Program, said Barbara Pagano, with the Rampart Range Blue Star Mothers chapter.
"A friend told me about someone in Washington, D.C., who was doing this and I said to myself, 'why don't we keep this in our own back yard?'" she said.
From 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday Suits for Troops will be at American Legion Post 209, 3613 Jeannine Drive to collect clothing. For information, go to rrbsm.webs.com.
For all that the Rampart Range Blue Star Mothers do for military in our community, they are worthy of a Friday Military Salute.
