New Year's Eve celebrations and events abound in Colorado Springs and there are folks who want to make sure everyone rings in 2014 safely by offering free rides home.
As part of McDivitt Makes a Difference, aimed at encouraging safe driving in Colorado Springs, the McDivitt Law Firm is picking up the tab for party goers on New Year's Eve.
The Safe Ride Home program runs through Yellow Cab and will be in operation from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 3 a.m. Wednesday.
The firm will pay as long as the riders are headed home; the free ride is not available from a bar or restaurant to another drinking establishment.
Call Yellow Cab at 777-7777 to request a safe ride home.
Designated Driver of Colorado Springs has given almost 17,000 safe rides home since New Year's morning of 2009 and its ready to keep up the good work.
From 10 p.m. Tuesday to 3 a.m. Wednesday, civilian riders can get picked up at sponsoring locations for a free ride home. Riders who are military ID holders can get picked up anywhere, said executive director Nonie Rispin.
To find sponsoring locations, visit noduicosprings.org.
Riders need to have their own vehicle, and tips are encouraged for drivers, who are all volunteers.
Call Designated Driver of Colorado Springs at 650-3450 for a ride home.
For both services, all drivers reserve the right to deny rides to anyone who is unruly, too intoxicated, or does not comply with regulations and conditions.
