A Fort Carson soldier was arrested by Colorado Springs police on suspicion of sexual assault of a 14-year-old female, the latest development in a series of sexual misconduct investigations coming out of the Army installation.

Army Pvt. Mark Vincent Petrosky, 19, was booked into the El Paso County jail Wednesday and held on a $10,000 bond, court records show. There are three open warrants out of El Paso County for Petrosky on suspicion of sexual offenses, criminal trespass and a restraining order.

Police spokeswoman Barbara Miller confirmed Petrosky's arrest is linked to recent sexual misconduct investigations involving Fort Carson personnel, which Army investigators and Colorado Springs detectives are working jointly.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is handling its own series of investigations involving Fort Carson soldiers suspected of engaging in sexual acts with minors.

According to Colorado Springs police detectives, the investigation on Petrosky began June 21, when a Colorado Springs officer responded to the Fountain Police Department regarding the sexual assault of a 14-year-old.

Police contacted the underage victim at the parking lot of Quail Lake around 3:30 a.m. June 21 and the man she had allegedly had sex with, identified as Petrosky.

The victim told police she and Petrosky had met through a website and corresponded for about eight weeks, exchanged text messages and met in person, when they had sexual relations.

Colorado Springs police assigned a detective with the Crimes Against Children Unit to the investigation July 2 and found probable cause to arrest Petrosky with felony sexual assault on a child.

Fort Carson public affairs spokeswoman Meghan Williams confirmed Petrosky has been in active duty for one year and is assigned to the 3rd Brigade Armored Combat Team, with the 4th Infantry Division.

Petrosky's home of record, according to Williams, is Landing, N.J. He has received the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

Petrosky's arrest is the latest in what is emerging as a string of sexual misconduct cases at Fort Carson.

Two weeks ago, Spc. Blake A. Harty, with the 4th Infantry Division, was convicted by court martial of sexual misconduct with a minor under 16 years of age and sentenced to 16 months in prison.

Anyone with information about this case can call police at (719) 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at (719) 634-STOP (7867).
