A former assistant football coach at an Academy School District 20 high school in Colorado Springs was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, according to a police statement released Monday.

A Colorado Springs police report was initiated by a school resource officer after an allegation of an inappropriate relationship between David R. Kindig, 21, a former Liberty High School assistant football coach, and a student, police said.

Kindig was booked into the El Paso County jail Friday and posted $10,000 bail Saturday, court records show.

Kindig will be advised of the charges at the El Paso County courthouse Wednesday and his first appearance in court is scheduled for Dec. 31, court records show.

Kindig had been employed by District 20 for the first time as an assistant football coach during the 2013 football season, which concluded in November, when his employment also ended, said spokeswoman Nanette Anderson.

District 20 officials declined further comment about Kindig.
