Former El Paso County Commissioner Dennis Hisey, a Republican, will run for state senate in District 2, according to paperwork he filed Monday with the secretary of state.

As of yet, no additional candidates have joined the race for the seat, currently held by Senate President Kevin Grantham, a term-limited Republican.

As the election isn't until 2018, Hisey, a Fountain resident, appears to be getting an early start on campaigning.

According to Hisey's website, he's a member of a number of boards and committees, including that of the Fountain Valley Senior Center, Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce and Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority. He is also a member of the NRA and a charter member of the Fountain Fort Carson Lions Club.

Hisey is currently serving as the interim executive director of the Pikes Peak Workforce Center. He served as an El Paso County commissioner from 2004 to 2017 and was prevented from serving additionally by term limits.
