Former Colorado College hockey player Scott Winkler dies at Norway home

Former Colorado College Tiger center Scott Winkler has died, Colorado College athletic director Ken Ralph confirmed Thursday morning.

Winkler, who graduated last month with an economics degree, was found at his parents' home in Asker, Norway Wednesday evening when his mother returned from work. He was unresponsive.

The cause of death is unknown, Ralph said.

"The first thing you feel is shock and secondly you hope it isn't true," Ralph said. "Scott had been working very hard and done a great job preparing himself for professional camps this summer."

"It's unfathomable that something like this can happen to someone his age."

Winkler, 23, was a third-round selection (89th overall) of the Dallas Stars in the 2008 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-3, 202-pounder finished with 63 points (24 goals) in four years as a Tiger.
