Former Air Force standout Derrick Burnett recorded five assists in Team USA's 8-2 win over Croatia to help the Americans earn the top Pool A seed entering the single-elimination quarterfinals at noon Thursday at the 2017 IIHF inline hockey world championships in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Burnett, a former ice hockey forward playing as an inline defenseman, has nine assists in the three pool-play games for the unbeaten Americans. The Americans have been paced by former Nebraska-Omaha forward Matt White, who has 13 points (seven assists) through three games. Team USA scored eight goals in each game for a scoring margin of 24-5.
Colorado College athletic trainer Jason Bushie is serving in the same capacity for the Americans.
If Team USA advances out of the quarters, it will play in the semifinals Friday and in either the bronze-medal or gold-medal games Saturday. Team USA has medaled in all but five of the past 19 world championships, including the last two bronzes.
