Colorado Springs is expected to see a steep shift in weather Thursday, with possible snow arriving from the Western Slope in the evening, meteorologists say.

The National Weather Service in Pueblo predicted a high of 53 degrees and mostly sunny skies during the day Thursday. Temperatures will start to drop at about 5 p.m. to a low of 17. Snow is possible before 2 a.m.

"Cold air rushes in later in the evening on Thursday," Gazette news partner KKTV said. "Snow showers will move from north to south late Thursday wrapping up very early Friday AM. It isn't looking like a huge snowfall event - a dusting up to a quick inch, but the timing of the snow could cause some trouble spots on the roadways."

A Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories are in effect for the eastern San Juan, Sangre de Cristo and west and northwest mountains through Thursday night. Mountains across the state are forecast to receive six to 12 inches of snow.

The sun is forecast to return to Colorado Springs Friday with a high of 41 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to gradually increase over the weekend to a high of 50 degrees Saturday and 59 degrees Sunday.
